Happy Halloween from Upper Paradise Dental!

Halloween is just a few days away.  For children this is a fun night to dress up and go trick-or-treating with their family and friends.  It is also an opportunity to get free candy, which they can stockpile for the winter.

Upper Paradise Dental wishes our patients and their families a Happy Halloween!!

Here are some tips on how to keep your mouth healthy during the Halloween season:

  • Eat Halloween candy and other sugary foods with meals or shortly after mealtime. Saliva production increases during meals and helps cancel out acids produced by bacteria in your mouth and helps rinse away food particles.
  • Avoid hard candy and other sweets that stay in your mouth for a long time. Candy that stays in the mouth for a long period of time subject teeth to an increased risk for tooth decay.
  • Avoid sticky candies that cling to your teeth. The stickier the candy, the longer it takes to get washed away by saliva, increasing the risk for tooth decay.
  • Brush your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste. Replace your toothbrush every three or four months, or sooner if the bristles are frayed. A worn toothbrush won't do a good job of cleaning your teeth.
  • Clean between teeth daily with floss. Decay-causing bacteria get between teeth where toothbrush bristles can't reach. Flossing helps remove plaque and food particles from between the teeth and under the gum line.

Hamilton Dentist Receives Academy of General Dentistry Fellowship Award
The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) is pleased to announce that Dr. Michael Puksa DDS, FAGD, of Hamilton, Ontario, received the association’s Fellowship Award during the AGD 2013 Annual Meeting & Exhibits, held from June 27 to 30 in Nashville, Tenn.
The AGD Fellowship Award is presented to dentists who seek to provide the highest quality of dental care by remaining current in their profession. To accomplish this goal, Dr. Puksa completed 500 hours of continuing dental education, passed a comprehensive exam, and fulfilled three years of continuous membership in the AGD.
As a Fellowship Award recipient, Dr. Puksa joins more than 6,900 active AGD Fellows who have gone above and beyond the basic requirements to care for their patients’ oral health.
“We are proud to honor Dr. Puksa for his commitment to the profession,” says AGD President Linda J. Edgar, DDS, MEd, MAGD. “He has distinguished himself professionally among his peers and is a role model for both fellow dentists and community members of Hamilton.”
